      Tom Calarco did extensive research in order to write this book about the Undergound Railroad. He combined information about well known figures such as John Brown and Frederick Douglass with many lesser known abolitionists who helped fugitives escape to a better life, sometimes risking their own lives in the process. This would have been an extremely difficult subject to research because of the secrecy involved and therefore the lack of records on the subject. Calarco, however, garnered much info [...]

      This is a nicely done niche interest history, very suitable if you're looking to research into the underground railroad in general even if it does focus on one particular region. If it's local facts and figures you're looking for, there are plenty of names and locations to spark further research. Well written and copiously supplied with useful images.
