    Was lucky enough to get a copy of this book from Gabriel at AWP. For some reason I'd figured it would have at least a few essays in it (since, it mean, it shares a name with, I guess you could say, a somewhat notable philosophical text), but while it certainly borrows--heavily, and broadly--from an an impressive number of theoretical backgrounds, this is fiction of one of the most well-realized visions I've come across in a long time, even if parts of the book didn't work for me.     The mix of material around which Blackwell spins his stories is really impressive. Equations, fictional treatments of various historical figures, government reports on torture of the Marx brothers, and so on. There was little way of predicting what would come next. Highly intelligent and inventive without being overly cerebral, I dug these stories.

    I enjoyed this a lot, at least most of it, and thought it was a fun and strange diversion. The book is divided into three sections, I'm guessing modeled on the original Critique, though there were times when I didn't quite follow the divisions.My fave stories were in the middle section-- so "The Mystery of the Felsh," "Story (with Dog)," "The Little Death," which might re-do Blackwell's own _ShadowMan_, only better, and "A Model Made out of Card."
