Absolutely gorgeous photographs of fascinating creatures---- a book to stare at when I need to go to my "happy place". Highly recommended for animal lovers and those who appreciate the beauty of the natural world.

very cool. I like the prisms and the like best; otherwise it just felt like a specimen on display at a museum and that's not that exciting in a book. I would love to see these in person.

This was the most gorgeous photo book, offering truly fascinating new ways to observe nature. Biophilia has all the artistic prowess and presentation of a master artist - think Ansel Adams meets Jackson Pollock and Jane Goodall. It's a fascinating mashup that gives equal weight to scientific observation and artistic presentation. My fiancee and I had an awesome afternoon sitting next to each other and pouring over each gorgeous page. I can imagine that this is good for all ages - grownups can ap [...]

Biophilia by Christopher Marley is a wonderful book for anyone who loves objects from nature. Christopher Marley designs ways of presenting animals, plants, and minerals to highlight their beauty in an artistic manner. The first five chapters of the book are organized by type of subject. Each of these chapters has a forward, where Marley discusses his history with the type of creature or object. In the case of the animals, he also discusses his strategies for responsible collection of his specime [...]

Subtract one star because it was not all bugs. The things this man does with bugs will thrill and amaze you. In great numbers and great design, they become color fields, intricate mandalas, or pointillist abstractions. There is something odd about seeing something foreign, but seeing it in multitudes, fastidiously arranged. I want whole books of just the bugs. I want to see them in real life and get a sense of the scale of these works. Are they postcards or entire walls? Hanging in white space o [...]

With a lot more variation than his book Pheromone, this is an equally fascinating collection of Marley's art. I especially enjoyed the last chapter, titled Unity, where left and right pages contrast two completely different species or even minerals and fossils, with other ones that share a common pattern, color, shape or feel.

The images and essays in this magnificent volume elegantly present the best and most unusual specimens of bugs, birds, fish, lizards, octopuses and gemstones I have ever seen. They illustrate how much beauty there is in the natural world without causing it more damage. How great is that?

    8. Meghan Fidler

The patterns are beautiful, but I'm uncomfortable with arranging so many dead bodies into art.

    9. Peg Lotvin

Pretty pictures, but got tired of them long before the end. I was put off by the photos of birds minus body parts. Ugh!

Art = five starsWords = three starsSurprising to find some hints of creationism in a book that seems so inspired by evolution.
