This story gives us the day in the life of a couple of small children. From "bread is for more jam, please" to "birds are for chase" to "toys are for taking out", the repetition of the story gives readers a sense of what their own lives are like. The illustrations are simply, yet, they give the reader a realistic view of the children in the story. 4 stars for a solid book, that helps young readers see how their lives are patterned and how that structure helps them recognize what's coming next!

This book is a treasure. It encourages big sibling love for the littler one, which was its first draw for me. The story has a family waking in the morning getting ready for the day going for a walk playing at home getting ready for bed the safe, happy routine of a day. I could almost see the thoughts turning in my kids' head as they noticed similarities to our days. How we wake up in the morning with funny hair wearing PJ's. How they get to climb on dad at the end of the day sometimes. How kids [...]

I enjoyed reading this book, it talked about a lot of different things and their uses. One of the things was "Jell-o is for wobbling". This is a cute book and the illustrations complemented the words. I would recommend reading this book.I could use this book in the classroom to teach students about certain objects and their uses, and then have the students think of certain objects and their uses.

TOES ARE TO TICKLE lends itself to quite a few elementary lessons, such as introducing/reviewing nouns. "Morning is for waking up! An egg is to dip. Milk is to give some to the cat." You could write nouns on slips of paper, place them in a cup, and have students select (or randomly assign nouns or provide a list). Students could create a sentence modeled after the text for each noun.

Somebody gave me this book at my baby shower and I started reading it to my son when he was born. It's a perfect night time, get ready for bed, book. I read it to him every night until he started reading it to me. Now I have it tucked away in a memory box.

I was hoping it would rhyme . . . it didn't and it was quite boring. People get paid for this stuff???
